Within These Walls

What lay beyond this prisons wall
my wish that I could see it all,
yet here confined with time to serve
the outside world I don't deserve.

For crimes committed here I stay
in punishment it's how I pay,
unseeing things I need so much
denied to me a lovers touch.

I stand alone here late at night
within my mind my soul takes flight,
beyond the walls and wire fence
roaming free in my pretence.

Upon the breeze the sweetest smell
fills the air within my cell
reminding me when I was free
just what life held back then for me.

Now life I spend escape no chance
behind these bars I must enhance,
each dream that take me far away
till once again I'm freed one day.
