A vast flood in out back country
Water as far as one could see~
The longest way from a river
Water half way up almost every tree~
I sat in a boat at the time
Helping stock make it to ground~
And there I saw the most amazing sight
I have never forgotten what I found~
Ever so many enemies of animal kind
All sitting wet, shivering side by side~
Upon and along the largest fallen tree
Next to each other with dampened pride~
A little mouse snuggled next to a snake
Beside that a tiny bird so very wet~
A rabbit sat not far away right there
A dingo soaked and close as it could get~
Others also on that fallen tree side by side
No thought of anything but to stay alive~
Enemies of every day life
All simply only trying to survive~
I thought right then about man on earth
Is this what it would take~
A planetary disaster of threatening size
To have all give peace upon earth a break~
To have all forget their greed, their war
And think of just one and all today~
Appreciating the simple things in life
And as one all just trying to make their way~
Looking at these shivering wet enemies in life
As natural as could possibly be~
All forgetting daily grieviances then and there
And sitting side by side upon a fallen tree~
God and nature I feel one day will arrange it
As for so long man has had his way~
It's not if but when I feel up the track
Something like this will come our way~
It is such a shame looking back
At some things man on earth has done~
How much grander we all could be today
If more common sense over time had been won~
