I think back to the days of my youth
To a time when life was a playground of fun
I took nothing serious until one day I was awakened
Death looked at me through the barrel of a gun

I'd like to tell you of my testimony
Which has rocked my heart's deep core
We must share our live's experiences
These lessons we should not ignore
My tale begins on a summer's eve
My boyfriend asked me out for a walk
The beautiful sunset looked so lovely
We strolled together not willing to talk
I was young then and very foolish
Life was exciting and was full of fun
I never thought I'd be in that situation
Near to death when my life just begun
We saw a young man running slowly
Who waved at us as he came near
We greeted him in sincere friendship
But what transpired caused us fear
His manner was bold as he approached us
We noticed something shone in his hand
He waved a small gun into our faces
In a rough voice he made a command
"You'll have to give me all your money!"
Hand over your wallets!" he rudely said
"Don't try to escape," he stated firmly
"Or both of you will end up dead!"
A scream flew uncontrolled from my lips
My fingernails dug into my fellow's arm
The boy was young and not well dressed
We could not believe he meant us harm
Time went by in extreme slow motion
The boy's hand trembled holding the gun
In my intense state of complete terror
My mind exploded with thoughts to run
Suddenly I began to pray out loud
I closed my eyes too scared to look
Into the angry face of our young mugger
My heart beat rose and my body shook
A deathly silence descended around us
There was a heavy feeling in the air
I opened my eyes for just a moment
The young man screamed as if in fear
I was surprised to see him fleeing
He ran away like a frightened deer
My boyfriend whispered, "Praise God!
Your prayer was poison in his ear!"
