My best friendTell me, just tell me who? I wonder, would just anyone do? Who can be your closest friend, Running alongside to life's very end? Margie, she's my very best friend, She's run alongside through many a twist and bend, Struggling up life's mountains, still right beside, When calamity struck – she didn't run off and hide. The great knot has been tied now for 40 years, Bound by love, sometimes bathed with tears, For we all know that love's binding cord Can be damaged by even just one inconsiderate word. Those years, they have passed quickly by, God is faithful, our river has never run dry, Though sickness, dear Margie, has robbed vitality, You are still precious and loved deeply by me. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Margaret and I married on the 10th August 1968 in Wanganui, New Zealand. We migrated to Australia in March 1992 and now live south of Brisbane. Poetry Ad-Free Upgrades Vote for this poem |
