WHERE MERMAIDS PLAY

WHERE MERMAIDS PLAY

A golden sliver of the moon hanging low in the sky's night
reflecting light from the sun so far away burning bright

Ocean's tide obeys lunar's pulling call
Seaweed and shells on the beach there to sprawl

Onto beaches boisterous waves roll eager to be free
Spewing a big belch before they are beckoned  back to sea

Caves fill with water where mermaids play
Drops of aqua gather in abundant cascades

Iridescent beings from waist to tail
Aquacade to the music of the sea in crescendo swells

Creatures with jeweled tails and shining fins
Hues that change each time over the waves they do spin

The moon wanes in the sky
The tide rolls out - time for friends to say goodbye

Aquatic beings gather in a row
Each a friend never a foe

On large rocks they sit listening to the melodious waves to rest
combing each others hair to cover their breast

Morning's sun has ascended
They now sing of last night's fun that was splendid

William Shakespeare,
A Midsummer Night's Dream
(Oberon at II, i)

Thou rememb'rest
Since once I sat upon a promontory
And heard a mermaid, on a dolphin's back,
Uttering such dulcet and harmonious breath
That the rude sea grew civil at her song,
And certain stars shot madly from their spheres
To hear the sea-maid's music.

"Upon the shore a mermaid fair,
with shimmering seashells in her hair,
whispers a secret from the deep,
and gently lulls me off to sleep."
