Yesterday, I returned from a mystery
A twelve hour journey to Pawnee City Surprises in store, what could they be? Each one a secret, for us to wait and see First stop, a miniature toy collection 450 pedal cars, what an inspiration Farm tractors, wagons, and the like From big bicycles to smallest trike Next, we stopped by an Amish farm Family of five, baby in Mom's arms He is a wood cabinet maker by trade Baked goods were for sale she had made Then to a quilt shop, used to be a church Music in the background, an added touch Some quilts had spiritual themes displayed A visible witness and testimony portrayed Lunch was served in the Methodist church Viewing their new kitchen, an extra touch Given by donated funds, in loving memory Next month, they have 150 year anniversary Next, a 20 building museum, history galore 1867 family home of our state's first governor 1600 salt and pepper sets, 800 pieces barbed wire So much more, anything to suit your heart's desire Then to a wine tasting brewery, I had root beer It was refreshing and quenched my thirst there Next, we listened to a buffalo herd rancher speak He has 80 heads, also the mail carrier each week We saw part of a silent movie by Harold Lloyd There was not time to see the ending, oh boy! Still climbing a building, problems to the top Pigeons, netted rope, hanging from the clock Dinner was served at a convent bed and breakfast It was a very delicious buffet meal to say the least An hour and a half later, we arrived to get in our cars Some stayed overnight, with more of a journey by far © Carol Salter 8/20/08 Vote for this poem
