 The First Time

Another loss in the family
has brought my mind back to
the First Time.

The First Time
you have to face life alone.
How frightening that prospect is,
no matter what your age!
The prayers of your friends
help you immeasurably.

These are my memories
of

The First Time

The first time
I face the sunrise alone,
or walk down paths all on my own,
or cry to the heavens of my misery.

I pray you will be
praying for me.

The first time
I have to watch our child cry,
and can't answer the question
 when she asks me "WHY",
I'll lean on my Jesus, and ask HIM to be
Guiding my words, to assuage her agony.

I pray you will be
praying for me.

The first birthday, first holiday,
first feast of Thanksgiving,
scalding tears, or primal scream that comes unbidden,
Somehow, some way,  I'll keep on living.
First night, when I miss you
More than I can withstand,
Finding alone is so REAL,
I finally, truly, understand.

I pray you will be
praying for me.

The Lord and His Holy Spirit
Will light the way
Of this mountain of 'lost love'
I must travel each day.
Jesus will be who I lean upon
when I get too tired, too old,
Then HE will carry me like that
escaped lamb from the fold.

I pray you will be
praying for me.

It's only The Lord's Love and yours
that eases this pain.
Death has caused me so much loss,
with so little to gain.
Yet Eternity can't hold
all the love we possess,
My joy has always been
In your happiness.
So as you walk with the Lord
and survey streets of gold
And hear choirs of angels,
see family, and friends untold,
Would you join hands with Jesus
and both of you agree?

I pray all will be
praying for me!
