Within the bed you sleep in slumber
Peaceful, knowing not what is before you
To come.
Your eyes are closed as silently you hear
Nothing, noises of the world cannot touch you
Where you are.
Fingers wrap around a tiny nose that only smells
Mother, the need for her taste within your mouth
Begins to stir.
I look at you with eyes so full of love that it
Hurts, you know not why as silently you dream of bluebirds
Flying in the sky.
A soul so pure and clean as driven snow upon
Earth, you lie upon softness of pillows holding you
Within their gentle grasp.
Hear the sigh escape your throat as dreams take you high and let you
Float, among clouds from whence you came and will return
One fine day.
Your skin so new and satin soft like petals from the finest rose
Blooming, as smiling rays shine soft upon your face so still
And beautiful.
Tiny fingers grasp the edge of a blankets' softness given
Free, with warmth to sooth all troubled dreams away not just today
But always.
I feel the warmth emit from you as silently I stand in
Awe, my eyes cannot believe the beauty that they see
Before them.
As time goes by you smile with innocence that only an infant
Holds, for you are natures' greatest gift and one
Worth more than finest gold.
Each day for you will be brand new just like you are
Now, so within your wraps as you chase your sheep
Sleep, sweet baby, sleep.

~ This poem was inspired by a photograph
of a dear young friend as an infant sleeping
against a pillow, wrapped in soft, warm blankets.
The beauty and innocence of this child completely
engulfed my entire being. Next to my own children
and grandchildren, I've never seen such a
beautiful creation within nature. ~
