Looking BackIn looking far back right down the track There's a memory of all those that who- Worked early till late in hardest times To simply make it through- In places that had never before been settled Back then no fancy life or frills- But to get to where their dreams where at They had strong loving hearts and wills- No help to speak of at all back then So many lived and died for their dreams- Away out upon land often dead dirt and sand Some felt rich having running streams- But life for them was as hard as it gets The ones that calved what we have today- The very ones that sowed those first seeds Our pioneers and settlers so far back a way- When I look around ,see the way most are today With all the help that life today does provide- I honestly wonder true oh how I do How most today would survive in a settlers stride- They almost broke their backs down the track Without any help and all upon their own- Calving a future out of virgin scrub and rock In order to create a life , a home- Looking back so far back down life's track I wish that now they all could see- What has grown from seeds they'd sown In our day now and age and destiny- Looking back in appreciation for them all Looking back in grateful memory- Of all those first pioneers and settlers then That started whats now known by you and me- Terrence Michael Sutton copyright 2008 Poetry Ad-Free Upgrades Vote for this poem
