So far from Home

So Far from Home
Sitting here in the middle of this mess, muck, and mire
Still running with the devil, but feeling so tired
Lost in a way that is truly not for me
So far from the life that was meant to be
Knowing in my heart I was made for much more
Yet closer to destruction than I've ever been before
This road is so vast and it goes on and on
I want to turn right but I continue turning wrong

I'm so far from home, treading unfamiliar ground
The path that I knew so well can no longer be found
The place in my heart where peace once abode
The fire shut up in my bones, now seem so cold
If home is where the heart is, then I am truly lost
Far from my father and his son who paid the cost

If knowing is half the battle, I am truly in a fight
My body will be left if my soul isn't right
I once walked in the grace of God; faith was all I knew
But there is nothing heavenly in the things I now do
His word was my light; it shined from deep inside
Now it is in darkness from that same light I hide
In the land of sleepless nights the land of so much pain
The place offers me neither comfort nor shelter from the rain

I am so far from home, treading unfamiliar ground
The path that I knew so well can no longer be found
The place in my heart where peace once abode
The fire shut up in my bones, now seems so cold
If home is where the heart is then I am truly lost
Far from my father and his son who paid the cost

The wages of sin is death, and this much I know
Home is where forgiveness is, so home is where I must go
I don't click my heals three times, I just fall on my knees
And call upon of he the name who paid my sinful fees
Now death has no sting and the grave no victory
The cross and tomb stand empty to guide people like me
