Poetry For Everyday People

Happy Muslim To You

My tax checks
seem to be good,
the girl scout cookies
check, seems to be appreciated
by the girl scouts and their parents,

I celebrate Christmas
because it's beautiful,
I fast during Ramadan
because it's beautiful
(it teaches us
 what it feels like
 not to have food, water,
 medicine, and at the end
 of every day during Ramadan:
 you're thankful, respectful,
 within this glimpse, where
a glass of water at the end
of the day, at sun down,
 tastes like love),

some of my best friends
are veterans,
my stars shine, my moon
winks, maybe that's where
we're different?
my moon winks,

have some balls

say Muslim without
a terrorist punch line,
say an Arabic name without
a terrorist punch line,

if nothing else,
you wont be a puppet,

unless you enjoy
that LINE of work.
