TAXING REPRESENTATION
They all seem so benign,
Without ill design,
They cheerfully opine,
And rarely resign!
All shortsighted chaps,
And also benighted,
With big knowledge gaps
That never get righted.
In all election years
The fools act excited,
And, if winning cheers,
They really are delighted!
And when they're sworn in,
They'll not be at all lax
In starting up the spin
For a much higher tax.
Have Americans long erred--
Is an apologetic word,
Though long deferred,
Owed King George the Third?
