The Night Before Jesus Came

`Twas the night before Jesus came and all through the house not a person was praying not even my spouse. Our Bibles were laid on the shelf without care not knowing that Jesus was on his way there. The children were getting ready for bed not once ever kneeling or bowing a head. Their mother was knitting a scarf on her lap and watching the late show while I took a nap. Then out of the east there arose such a clatter that I sprang to my feet to see what had shattered. Over to the window I flew in a flash, tore open the curtains and threw up the sash. Then what to my wandering eyes should appear but angels proclaiming that Jesus was near. And when I saw a star shining from so far away I knew in a moment this must be "The Day"! A light from above made me lower my head. It was Jesus returning just as He had said. And though I tried hard not to shed any tears I cried when I saw him because of my fears. For in The Book of Life that He held in his hand was written the names of every saved man. I spoke not a word as he searched for my name and when He said "It's not here." my head hung in shame. The people whose names had been written with love, He gathered to take to his Father above. With those who were ready He rose to the sky while all of the rest were left here to die. I fell to my knees but it was to late. I had waited to long and thus sealed my fate. I said to myself as they rose out of sight, "Oh, if only I had been ready tonight." In the words of this poem the meaning is clear. The coming of Jesus is drawing near. There is only one life and when comes the last call you will find that the Bible is true after all!
