Upon My Bed
When I lay down upon my bed
I need to pray but nothing's said
Unsure how I should begin
Thoughts of guilt plagued with sin
Befriending devils who do not care
Merely hinder each desperate prayer
I believe in God I know He's near
But many doubts He will not hear.
Perhaps too bad to be forgiven
A wasted life that is sin driven
I try to cry but numb with feeling
An endless search for needed healing
A constant struggle not to think
Leads me to a night of drink
Sickness welcomes the early morn
Ignoring those who tried to warn
That sin is fun for only a season
Yet I continue on for rigid reason
Some little pleasure despite the fear
Is better than sorrow throughout the year
So from bar to tavern I do roam
Seductive harlots I bring home
When we lay down upon my bed
I need to pray but nothing's said
