 Angel

Looking around me, I look to see if there is anyone I know
As I roll  in this mud and filth becoming quite the show.
Flailing, staggering, stumbling, falling  to the left and the right;
Without concern of my reputation, I'm drunk again tonight.

You enter into the bar and you look at me with love,
Sent to rescue me from myself from God above.
Encompassing me with your steadfast gentle care,
Out of the blue you're the answer to my wife's prayer.

Helping me out the door into the cool evening air,
I look into your loving eyes crying tears of despair.
Guiding me down the street to grab a cup of Joe
As alcohol  has wrecked my life again, this I know.

Falling off the wagon face down into the dirt,
The pain of the fall is not bad, but now I do hurt.
Repentance sweeps the high from my veins,
A life with a steadfast walk is all that remains.

I may look to you to be the picture of peace,
But I have been a guest of the local police
More times than I care to count or remember.
Once again I am free, ten years this September.
