I was just a young bloke on the road
I end up in the Kimberly~
Trying to find myself at the time
And in my way trying to be free~
Lived with a family there all beautiful folk
And they then taught me all they knew~
About their way of life their way
Wonderful people through and through~
I ran through those rocky landscapes
Sometimes as naked as a jay bird on the day~
And life then it seemed as I had dreamed
Doing things mostly then their way~
I learned all about the wild bush herbs
And I ate the food that they ate~
I had the love they had for each other
And way had more than one good mate~
We swam in crocodile infested waters
But no real trouble we had then~
We hunted as they all did in the wild
In the days of way back when~
They used to call me the albino Aborigine
As my long yellow hair hung down my back~
And it wasn't long before I too
Was not far off from being black~
They took me to places no white man had been
And I'd seen sights Id never seen before~
And I too covered ground without a sound
I ran free then and loved it all even more~
If I could paint those landscapes with my words
Right now you'd be so very taken away~
As it all then was the most beautiful place
With all those natural colors upon the day~
The millions of years taken to form this country
Had done a job no man on earth can do~
And the love and friendship then I received
Was as I'd never had then , and by very few~
I learned to throw a boomerang and a spear
And then became a part of a lifestyle grand~
I Gazed upon stars as I've never seen them
At night while sitting in the sand~
I do paint in oils now but I could not
Capture all of this as it was then for me~
When I was just a young bloke
Away up in the Kimberly~
I was only there for one could say awhile
But for me it seemed like years~
And sometimes when I think back about those days
I could well be reduced to tears~
Knew people who treated me better than some of my own
Some of them now sadly would have faded away~
And become a part of the Kimberly's
That I too knew and loved ever so upon the day~
