 DJ's Smiles

Each time that my grandson stays with us, this young one teaches me.
The small unnoticed blessings of life become magnified as I slow down.
Taking care of an eight month old man focuses your energies on now,
Not the future, or the past,  but right this very instant as time somehow stops.
The pace slows,  my desires and wants take the back burner, as priorities change.
At two am this morning, still wide awake, I looked and saw one of DJ's smiles.

Peace is chased by the joy that surges through my soul when I see those four teeth.
His lips curl and his blue eyes sparkle like the crystal waters of the Caribbean.
I could just completely lose my life in his absorbed by this process of child rearing.
I now understand that peaceful smile that rests on every mom that dedicates her life;
Who gives up her dreams and hopes and desires and become one with their infant child.
I understand a lot of the gifts of my loving God when I see one of DJ's smiles.

My life will return to normal this afternoon after Jordan picks him up after work.
My writing time will not be constricted to times of naps, workouts can be planned,
My yoga mat will once again be busy as I explore the depths of myself and my God.
But isn't being with Dana the same, as it opens my eyes to the simple beauty of life?
This time with him teaches me about who I am, and where I need to direct my energies;
But more than anything else, this time blesses me with one more of DJ's smiles.
