Christmas Spirit(Inspired from my adventures in "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever" 2008) His 8-year-old icy eyes Shine bright like Christmas And all I can do is control The inner beast That is close Breathing down my neck Growling like a demon wolf “Tear out his throat.” As I cry bitterly For the transformation Of a Latino girl Playing Mary Who isn't playing anymore When hearts That are hell bent Open like red velvet roses Crushed under The queen of heaven's feet The fragrance is overwhelming… And despite it all The monkey on my back Is pounding the rhythm of silent night Between my shoulder blades And the final blow of the trumpet Is aimed at the back of my head Mercilessly… This Christmas spirit Demands, the show must go on With the sacrifice Of sick children Coughing with pneumonia In the eaves The 9 year old girl With a adult splitting Headache smiles And gives the best performance Of her life Because she hurt too much To be nervous… Ironic And How American… Dear God… Save us from Ourselves… Poetry Ad-Free Upgrades Vote for this poem
