On Your Return
Would the sky be as clear
As the story scenes I once saw
With a child's mind?
Or would it be one indigo sheet
Muffling my cry like the time
I took a cab to close the distance
between us?
How far has my imagination gone
Since the simple tales you flourished
With country folk charm
How long I believed in a magic
That has failed me in countless ways,
Sagged my heart with the pain of truth,
And tied up the corners of my mind
I see in the splinters of my heart
One piece of you, one of me, and
The rest belong to the others
With blind spots all over
On your return, would I finally
Reclaim that small yet vital
Spark of happiness that left with you,
That little dancing fleck that hid
The world's cruelty from my eyes
Would the sky be clear, or
Would it be dark?
Would it be there at least
On your return?
Would I be here forever in a dusk
In bitter harmony of
Anger... and held-back tears?
Or are you waiting for me too?
