Poem For President Barack Obama
With dreams from his father
And heart from his mum,
He stands tall and humble
In the cold winter sun.
The people- so patient,
Enraptured with awe,
Digest every word
And hunger for more.
Pragmatic- a realist-
Not stuck in a rut,
Open and tolerant
With heart and real gut.
Together and equal,
United and free,
" We can do this together,
It's not about me."
The kid- once so skinny
With identity rage,
Now stands tall and steady
On a Washington stage.
Below- all the people-
Some black and some white
And red, brown and yellow-
Reach out and unite.
Joy Weare,
20th January, 2009.
