Letters to a Young Teacher (2) Boston, Massachusetts. 2009 Dear Sandy, You feel compelled to reply. My benign and effective viewpoint merits response. Be assured, I enjoyed my months of mentoring. Know your viewpoint at all times. The children will not feel cheated. It is sad that children are in need of such care. Permit me to go too much in the way of affect. Love and caring. You've always got the script written right. The children may not love and care for you. You know that. Curriculum, lessons, test scores, grades, and text books. What's the lesson to do with care? Either they learn or they don't. Remedial math and remedial reading are a hallway away. They pay attention, study and you hope that thhey learn. "Do you follow, Joey?" "Do you have a question, Peter?" What if they dont? What then? It is sad that the children are in need of such care. Again, your talent is not in the comedy show or the drama, but, in the caring person teaching the class. God forbid, there's a horror show! Going too far is far enough. Your motivation steels their motivation. In the end there are no surprises. You achieve success and they achieve success. Failure is another failure of the social milieu.
