Psalm 22 Call to Praise and Worship

Hear the heart's cry of David out of frustration
My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
But God was still the source of his consolation
If God seems far away, there is hope, you see

David proclaims that God is holy and faithful
Surrounded by His people lifting voices of praise
From generations past, whether old or youthful
Trusting in God brought deliverance all their days

David felt rejected and humiliated like a worm
Tormented, mocked, and despised by men
He suffered greatly from the insults and scorn
Through it all, God gave him strength within

God brought David out of his mother's womb
Making him trust when placed upon her breast
He prepared David for those periods of gloom
In times of trouble, God became David's rest

Bulls, lions, and dogs surrounded on every side
David's body battered and his strength all gone
Garments divided by casting lots and set aside
With God on his side, victory would be won

But You, O Lord, be not far off, was his plea
David sought help, asking for His assistance
Without God, there was no hope left, you see
God faithfully answered and brought deliverance

Resounding praise freely flows from his soul
Proclaiming to people gathered around to hear
No longer afflicted, God has made David whole
Awaiting universal praise in His kingdom there

Later, this psalm was used in the life of Christ
Describing His passion and suffering endured
But everything written happened to David first
David could not predict events that would occur

Psalm 22:19 (NASB)
But You, O LORD, be not far off; O You my help,
hasten to my assistance.
