 True Lies

They have strung me along once again, leading me by my nose;
Telling me those true lies that my ears wanted to hear so bad.
Building me up with fluffy words of praise, caressing my head;
I am told that I am a valuable member of our team in Recovery.

Do they actually believe that I will buy into their true lies;
Do they actually think that my self esteem can be bought?
With words pouring over me like honey, they attempt to sooth;
Filling my glass with empty calories of fat and sugary treats.

My glass is not half empty, can't they see; it is in need of nothing.
Their true lies can satisfy the glass half empty, but I see the reality.
I am not your puppy dog, tail wagging, desiring to please my master;
I'm not fetching your stinky slippers, I'm not chasing your stupid stick.

Don't you dare scratch my belly, and fill my ears with your true lies,
While placing your collar around my throat to control my actions.
This man will roam the plains of freedom, so pour out your words;
They will never seduce me, I am firmly planted in the hourly camp.

Freedom comes with the recognition of your game, your true lies;
My heart is not in need of your praises, my soul cannot be bought.
I will walk proudly in freedom, dragging that dang leash behind me.
You can force me to be a shift leader, but I will never be your puppet!

18Feb09

Written after being told at by my boss that I am being forced into an hourly
foreman's job called the shift leader, after weeks of fluffy words of praise.
 I was not happy.
