 Stars in the Night
I look up on this crisp cold moonless night at the display of the universe.
I marvel at what I see spread out before my eyes, as ponder my insignificant life.
The galaxies of billions of stars blanket my vision with this light show,
As I can still hear the voice of Carl Sagan leading us into this wonder.
My favorite constellation is Orion, now focusing in on the swords third light;
As the nebula that I am seeing is the destruction of that system's history.
Time stands still as I look up into the night's sky and think,
Was I there living in some time so far removed from this reality I know?
Did I explore the heavens at some other time seeing the birth of our sun,
From some distant perspective looking skyward into the Milky Way.
How can I even begin to comprehend this vastness without believing
That I am an eternal creation, standing in a vast and eternal universe.
The atomic partials within my physical body came from the carbon of others,
As the suspended energy within is now being released in me as I see my destiny.
With my head craned upwards, wishing that I knew the enigmas answers;
I find a place of peace looking up into the cloudless, moonless nights.
