 I See a Light

A department wide outage rages at work for the last week plus;
Everyone is scheduled 12's with no days off, folk's beginning to fuss.
Tired and unfocused, drifting through the motions are the crews;
Last night we began starting up little parts, which is great news.
Maybe two or three more night twelves for us,  now I see a light;
This tunnel has been long and arduous, a day off is now in sight.

This is the first time management has decided to work this way;
If they wish to know my opinion of this, I know what I would say.
Combining the crews, 11 to 14 days of 12's without giving a day off;
The only one's who like it are the overtime hogs feeding at the trough.
Two injuries, though minor, has happened during this scheduled mess;
Along with several near misses nearly getting us, I would like to express.

There are much better ways in dealing with the stress of shutdowns;
We have manned these for decades by rosters, without so many frowns.
Overkill was the word I have heard so many times these past ten days;
But with this system of overtime socialism in place, everyone now pays.
Freshness is needed in the next few days of start up, but it is not here;
I see a light now, we all do; we are ready to relax and have a mug of beer.
