 Hampton Roads
Driving home yesterday from Virginia Beach;
Crossing the bridge- tunnel, what did it teach?
To my right is Hampton Roads, looking out to sea;
To my left is the James River, flowing so free.
Fort Monroe guarding the entrance to the river;
Wide and majestic, the James with power delivers.
Steady is the waters, no matter the flooding or drought;
Maintaining her flow, never leaving the Bay without.
Wondering how this ebb and flow is achieved every day;
What is the interplay between the river and the Bay?
The Chesapeake joining the James meeting the ocean;
Nature achieves her balance with a loving devotion.
Living near the headwaters of one of the two tributaries;
Seeing such a variety of flows that the river here carries.
My soul is settled and comes to a epiphany of thought;
Need is provided by nature, so don't be overwrought.
When a drought is sapping my flow to the big blue sea;
Provision is made where it is needed, I think you will agree.
The balance of life is a beautiful organization of factors;
The stage is set, the play is on; we are realities actors.
