Some men suffered in dreams and wade through
deeper waters than others as they grew
Standing neath your wing a child
Teaching separates from their brothers
My father was not there for me
I survived not an easy task you see
But when I had children of my own
I felt responsible for the seed I'd sown
The day I went to college on my own
I knew that day I would make a better world
My country called me from poverty and the flag unfurled
So from birth I was a teacher and now he is grown
The boy a man has children of his own
Who under his wing the same lessons are shown
So dad of alcohol I thank you for one thing
On no child of mine will any of that pain I bring
I hear people say it is not their fault
For the life they have had no upbringing
My answer is to a deaf ear you are singing
Father's day is not that far away my friend
And the day of excuses for a man must end
Take your child under your wing make him understand
That there are lessons to learn until he too a man
