 Momma's Poem
Momma's Poem
You wrote poems for your kids and your parents too
So now I'm going to try to do the same for you
I don't know how to express it, the things on my mind
How you gave of yourself for us time after time
How to find the words to describe all that you meant
And how to say thanks for all the time that you spent
No one else knows the many things you went through
And no other mother would have done the things you had to do
Never sent us to bed hungry, no matter what it took
And you could make a meal out of anything you cooked
You always let us know when you made a mistake
And always stayed real with us, you were never fake
You made sure we had discipline, but you never beat us
You always had our backs, and let nobody cheat us
You said you'd be on our side when we were right
But if we were wrong you helped us see the light
Momma, you're the true poet if you ask me
Because everything you did was poetry
Many disagreed with the way you brought us up
But when we didn't have anyone else, you were just enough
The times when we had nothing, we felt like we had something
You never stopped the love, you always kept it coming
Momma I'm doing all I can to bring honor to you name
By remembering how you cared for me, and care for my kids the same
I tried to keep the family close but it's so hard to do
It's like the only way we stuck together is with you as the glue
I took my family out and went to visit as many as I could
On my word Mom I gave my best, I really tried to do good
If nothing else I hope you're pleased with the man I've come to be
I wish that I could hear you say that you are proud of me
I guess I already know it, I feel it in my heart
My life is a reflection of your love, and you're in every part
