 Faces
In the city, you can be numbed by sheer numbers;
Masses of blurred faces scurrying along the street.
Not one smile, only that blank look of separation;
A wall of protection within the features of their faces.
Shuffling off to my next appointment, I look for a spark;
Seeking a crack in the stone faces of those who walk past.
Where is the humanity I once knew in the days of my past?
Just a small little smile, simply a hint of life on this street.
I feel so alone, though I see thousands of other people;
Zombies, killed by the pain of living, now only a shell.
This is the day of the living dead, as these fortresses
Keep out intruders, feelings are suspended in their faces.
