 Sea Oats
Across the sand dunes of the Outer Banks,
Anchoring the fragile sands with their roots.
Sea oats grow in abundance, tossed by the breeze.
Their hypnotic dance draws me into the moment.
Golden in color, against the backdrop of the blue seas;
I am immediately tranquilized by their swaying beauty.
Uniola paniculata is the genus and the species;
Protecting this seascape from the winds and the tides.
Storms blow harshly against the face of the sand;
Ripping at their foundations, destruction intended.
The sea oats secure the sand, standing their ground;
Magnificently strong, taming the wild shoreline.
