 Reality of the Camera

Spending the day with my grandson passing the times;
We look at family pictures after in my lap he climbs.
Seeing the way I was, then the way I am, life passes;
I am hoping I can see a little better if I clean my glasses.

Pictures from twenty years ago remind me of my youth;
We are told the reality of the camera always tells the truth.
It is not the lack of hair, or my crows feet around my eyes;
It is not the extra ten pounds that is riding around my thighs.

No, it is the sparkle of hope in my eyes that remains the same;
As the passage of time doesn't show what I have became.
Yes, my body and my face age with each passing year;
But my soul maintains its youthful bounce as I persevere.

This is the reality of the camera that never is seen by another;
This perception can't be seen by anyone, not even by my mother.
I could smile today, knowing that I am eternally young in my heart;
As each new morning becomes a springboard, a daily new start.

Excited, as I see that twinkle of vibrancy stronger now than before;
Growth has continued in my life as I look forward to that next door.
The past is now long gone with her dusty memories leaving too;
Today is where I'm alive and every moment is completely brand new.
