I Drank the Rent

I drank the rent.
So I'm worried about living in a tent.
Frugality was never my bent.
I always had a liking for the right booze.
Or the tasty beers, one after another.
Lying on the floor drunk
was always so romantic to me.
My husband stopped long ago.
We were drinking partners.
He helps me with my rent.
Oh, I need it heaven sent.
I have to listen next week
to his lecture on thrift.
I have to face life with a sober attitude.
I have enough, but I have to be careful.
Maybe I want to be evicted.
I really need to stop--the drink.
My husband needs me dry.
I perceived life so wrong that
I just want to cry.
When I walk out of the bar,
I will give my son a call.
He has money to keep my from a
devastating fall.
