Standing strong through troubled times
Facing bigotry and racism many times
Early days so young at school I never realized
The struggle being of Irish decent was with me all the time
The systemic force of hate working behind the scene
No job, no future, my past, we all know what I mean
Employers asked the name of my school at my interview
No job for me, I have an Irish past. How long does hatred last
Never deny your religion my family said to me
Telling the truth was special and meant everything to me
Why did this happen in the country of my birth, tell me why?
At that special time of life they judged me by my name
On my final day of education I was told life would be tough
Hatred and bigotry would face me, my road of life was rough
I stayed focused and rose above the dark clouds
I was strong inside and knew that things were wrong
I moved away to another day, left hatred far behind
God bless my new country leaving dark clouds behind
