First off I'm Irish. Police Officers and drunks run in my family genes. I well always side on the side of the law. But I have experienced the otherside. Few who know me would believe I have ever been arrested or in jail. I once spent six hours in jail charged with assualting a metermaid. Hard to believe a Deacon in the Church on the day my son was to be Baptized. I missed the Baptizm i was bruised and battered and in jail. If I have your interest next comes the criminal act. My first job after college, marriage, and serving in the Air force came in a time of high unemployment. From loading and unloading buses at Greyhound I worked my way up to night supervisor in express. My shift was late night until early morning. Parking was a huge problem. Cars left in the parking lot at night were stolen or robbed. So I parked on meters across the street where i could watch my car. On this night my young bride gave me a warning, "Danny is being baptized. The Pastor is doing a big favor and coming to the house. Family well be there. No stops you get straight home." It was hard dropping my last dime in the meter. Yes inflation two hours parking for a dime. But a parking ticket was two dollars. An hours wages. A half hour short I sprinted across the street dropped a dime in and sprinted back. Noon I had about fifteen minutes leeway to get home for the baptizm. The surprise was finding a metermaid writing a ticket. The meter read, "void" the dime held up in the slot. I tapped on it and showed the metermaid as it sprung over to two hours. The metermaid wanted to show me who was in charge. I could tell it to the Judge.
My panic was easily read. I tried to explain I needed to be home and I was going to be late. This just fed her need. She stalled walking round the car trying to find anything to add to the ticket. Everything was asked for twice and twice trips to her truck. She was loving the control. No cellular phones n those day I got in the drivers seat with car running. Finally she put the ticket in the wipers. I reached through this tiny front window took it and started up the road. I saw her running to her truck screaming for me to stop. Now ten minutes later and I did not need a police excort in front of all the Church people I decided to stop at a nearby Pricinct explain myself and ask if I could borrow a phone to call home. Part two well follow: The Arrest and mugging,/dandy
