WAY DOWN THERE

Sees the poets of yesteryear
As they are above her
Names she fondly
Thinks of
In the cold
Darkness
Of her nights alone
With dad and daughter
Dogs
At her feet
As she types away the nights.

Remembers times
She would never type a poem
As that's only for longhand
To reach something
More than
Waves of electricity
You have to pay for.

She used to
Write poems
That were payment enough
To let go
As she went
Way down there
On the scale of poets
Talking to herself
In the quiet
As midnight
Approaches.
