Carmela has a mischievous twinkle in her eye
And her three grown children live nearby
Although Carmela lives alone
Her upstairs' neighbor comes down
When she forgets to hang up the phone.
She recently had knee surgery
And the doctor told her
She was healing beautifully.
"You'll be driving in a few weeks," he said
"Guess there's just no way to keep you in bed."
"Are you kidding, Doctor,"
Was Carmela's reply
"I've never driven before
But I'd sure like to try!"
Yes, lovely Carmela is still having fun
And guess what???
SHE JUST TURNED ONE-HUNDRED AND ONE!!!! (:-)
Carmela's son Joe volunteers with me at the
New Jersey Memorial Home for Disabled Veterans, where
we conduct a Writers' Workshop. Joe and his wife
Mary Ann invited me to a buffet dinner at an Italian
restaurant, where I met Carmela for the first time.
Other people at the dinner included their family
members, the young man who is Carmela's neighbor
and her two lady-friends. The three women looked
lovely. They have their hair done at the same beauty
parlor every week -- and Carmela's beautiful face is
wrinkle-free. We all enjoyed the delicious variety
of Italian food, wine, Cappuccino and dessert. I hugged
Carmela when we said goodbye. Looks like there's no
stopping this dear lady! <3
