Torn From the Pages of My Heart

Muffled.

The bright smile on her face almost
Made her forget her muffled weeping
In her mind, her thoughts are swirling fire:
Everything she touched seemed to burn, including him
His heart of all hearts she never wanted to break
Buried feelings, old tender feelings
She never wanted to wake.

She shouldn't have found out
It shouldn't have crossed her mind
She shouldn't have smiled at him
She shouldn't have taken his hand
They shouldn't have spoken
It only led to things unbidden
She shouldn't have cared for him
Until they both hated the other so much
She shouldn't have come to him
They shouldn't have met.

So many things interconnected
It should have been just him, just her;
She shouldn't have been too scared.
He was crying 'til her own teardrops fell
Pain finally caught up with her. Her heart
Is brimming with regret and pain for him
But none of it she could tell.
