I am Barabbas

I was set to die for murder and sedition
Awaiting my fate in the confounds of prison
Justified in my mind the action of my sin
I took the state of the world and gave it my spin
To right the injustice was my quest
Convinced in my thoughts I knew what was best
For what ever reason my efforts did fail
So I was sentenced to spend an eternity in hell
But there came a man named Jesus with thorns on his head
He came down from heaven and died in my stead
I was surprised when I heard the news
That He was the one preferred of the Jews
When the cry went out to crucify Him
Little did I know He would die for my sin
Because of His humility to serve
I did avoid the fate I deserved
I am Barabbas though not by name
His fate and mind was quit the same
I too was a sinner in need of God's grace
And did turn away from my saviors face
I walk the road of shame and sin
And escape deaths grip again and again
Until my deeds caught up with me far from home
And left me to face my consequences alone
As I sat in the dungeon of despair
It was His mercy that met me there
I am Barabbas born again
Alive in Christ, dead in sin
