Even Through the Fire

I have made up my mind I will serve the Lord
I will not turn back I will press my way forward
That is my pledge yes my only mission
Let the tempter come I know he's always fishing
He offered me riches, fortune, and fame
He appealed to my taste, his favorite game
When that didn't work he came a different way
He spoke very softly these words he had to say
Look if you will at the people all around
They took the deal and they are gaining ground
See what they drive, see where they live
They have only to receive, and never to give
Some not so educated, some not so skilled
Yet they advance, they are happy and fulfilled
All the songs you've sang and all the scriptures you've quoted
All the prayers you've prayed and you're still not promoted
Your car still breaks down, your bills still over due
What is the difference between them and you
Bow down gracefully to the image I've made
And your house will be large and you debts all paid
If you don't bow down and serve by my name
Life will be filled with sickness, sorrow and pain
And in the end no matter how hard you try
Just like everyone else in the world you will die
But I lifted my head and continued to stand
In the faith that my God has me in His  hand
And I said to the tempter as I say everyday
I know my God will make away
But if not, let it be known to you
That I will worship Him as I go through
