Sta. Candida Maria De Jesus (Once, the young girl Juanita)

On the 17th of October is the 2nd year of Her canonization, Sta. Candida Maria De Jesus occupies a special place in my heart. Looking back then, my late Nanay (mother) held a special devotion to her and it was the very day, October 17, 2010 that she was proclaimed Saint by Pope Benedict XVI and my mother died.

Frothy.Bubbly.Savory. Her earthen pot
     Cooks quietly
In the furnace for her poor,
         She loves. . . there's more.

Faith.Simplicity.Beauty. Her essence,
       Is God's artistry
Amidst a ravishing world for her dreams,
           She cherishes . . . selfless.

Tranquility.Heavenly.Saintly. Her soul
        Rests in God's arms lovingly
In the lingering moments of the dusk,
            She keeps still,
               Chooses God's will.

Patiently.Creatively.Motherly. Her schools
      Embrace children like a family.
        Children's voices reverberating . . .
           Learning, playing, singing. . .

            "Clara Estrella
                Que Guipuzcoa . . ."
                  Remembering Mother Candida,
                    Once the young girl, Juanita.
