Why Bind Him In Chains...? (A Poem For The Lenten Season)
Why Bind Him In Chains...?
"But Jesus who suffered death and for a little while was placed lower than the angels, has been crowned with honour and glory.
For the merciful plan of God demanded that He experience death on behalf of everyone." - Hebrews 2:9
Why bind Him in chains
When He has nothing but the truth...?
His life and love He lain
For the good as well as the brute.
His wails and cries have deafened the crowd
The scourge hurling down and buried in His flesh;
Sneering eyes looked amused and proud
Still, He's ready to forgive and to bless.
His body trembled and fell at times
A thousand strikes seemed not enough;
For the Son of Man, meek and mild
Unbelievers asked for a sign and laughed.
Mother Mary grieved much like no other
In tears, suffered for her Son silently;
The cold stinging pain in her heart seemed forever
Accepting God's will with all humility.
But He loves the Father in as much as the Father loves Him
