Poetic-Verses
EN PATHETICA
It was J. F. Kennedy that said:
"Do not ask what your country can do for you;
Ask what you can do for your country."
Yet, a country should give you, like the America itself,
A place to stand and exert your
Passion for it.
In a country of modern birth, I sigh
As I see a people driven by lack
Of sensitivity to its needs;
People who do not care about how
The country runs: if there is electricity,
water or a conducive environment
Free of mosquitoes and clean for habitation.
It is my concern.
I hope Nigeria will be better.
"Do not ask what your country can do for you;
Ask what you can do for your country."
Yet, a country should give you, like the America itself,
A place to stand and exert your
Passion for it.
In a country of modern birth, I sigh
As I see a people driven by lack
Of sensitivity to its needs;
People who do not care about how
The country runs: if there is electricity,
water or a conducive environment
Free of mosquitoes and clean for habitation.
It is my concern.
I hope Nigeria will be better.
