Autumn's Most Beautiful Colors

Fall is one of the most beautiful times of the year
The magnificent changes in colors of all the trees
The trips out to the cider mill for donuts & cider

To drive down the country roads to see the views
The yellows & reds of the leaves before they drop
Is always a breath taking site to even old eyes

In the country they still burn the fallen leaves
The smells and aromas are delightful to ones senses
Unlike the city where we have to bag up our leaves

I remember as a kid the Saturday mornings rituals
As neighbors rake them in a pile and kids jumped in
Playing in a pile of leaves before they were burned

The smoke from the leaves had drifted lazily about
Now days most cities forbid you from burning them
But we'd have our autumn fun before winter set in

Then came the bitter cold nights, the snow and ice
Which is all to common to those of us in Michigan
The winter cold will play hell on these old bones
