OPEN HEART

silver heart photo: Mon Amour MonAmour.jpg

I still keep your heart
On a silver chain
Around my neck,
Laying softly in
That hollow just
Above my own
Beating one

A gentle reminder
Of a time when I
Felt cherished,loved
And admired beyond
Measure, all the words
You tried to convey,
Shining and clear

I try not to take it off
For fear I'll forget
What it feels like
To know there is
At least one man
In this world who
Accepted me as I am

And I know I hurt you so
When I sent you away,
Even though I knew
It was what I had
To do right then
To save my soul
From breaking, but
I regret your pain

You didn't know
That our last goodbye
Was really the last
How unfair of her
I'm sure you've said
But I want you to know
Your heart still lies
Nestled alongside mine
Bound by a silver thread
of treasured memories
