Misunderstandings,
assumptions made,
stole the joy and
began to jade
a love so pure,
a friendship true.
With muted thoughts
you muddled through
imagined hurts with
such bitter tears.
Your passion waned,
you grew your fears
into excuses
to pull away,
drowning pain
you'd never say,
"Please listen love,
I just need more
of who we were
in days before."
Why couldn't you
open up to me,
just speak your truth
and let me see
the sides of you
too afraid to share
and too convinced
I'd never care?
Instead of letting
our love be free,
you held too tight-
you didn't see
a girl in love
with only you,
no pretense and
no subterfuge.
God gave a gift
for which you prayed,
you gave it back.
You should have stayed
the course with me
fully trusting in
our meant to be,
our time to win.
My life is left
in shades of blue;
the sun won't shine.
That special hue
of joy has passed
beyond my sight,
my soul can't see
without your light.
Is it too late
to work it through,
to save the love
that we both knew?
Perhaps one day
you'll feel your loss
then miss the gift
so callously tossed
aside, it seems.
With no regret
your life goes on.
I love you, yet
time heals the wound
or so they say.
For now, for me
there's just today.
