Footsteps

A little boy came home without his shoes
His mother says to him “what did you do”?
There was another little boy walking it the dirt
So I gave him my shoes so his feet wouldn't hurt
His mother and father had bare feet too
But my little shoes just would not due
You gave away your new shoes the mother said
I just don't understand what went through your head
Now we have to go to the shoe store
All the way downtown to buy some more
I simply wanted to stay in today
Now I have to go out of my way
Why did it have to be your shoes
I'm sure other boys saw him too
I'm not sure, he said if others tried
I only knew mine were just his size
The lessons I had in Sunday School
Said Christians do what Jesus would do
My teacher said He left His home
Gave up His crown and His throne
Came down from heaven, out of His way
To sacrifice for all on a cross one day
She said His Father was so proud of that
He gave Him all power and welcomed Him back
I thought that you would be proud too
If I did what Jesus would do
Cut to the heart by the words of her babe
The mother remembered how her debt was paid
A sacrifice so great, none could imagine
And the gift that amazing grace has been
She feel to her knees and embraced her son
Then tearfully, joyfully said to him” well done
