True Intimacy

The courtship behind, the wedding day long past
The honeymoon effect wore away at last
A certain man lies awake frustrated and mad
Remembering the intimacy they once had
She doesn't even see me, she doesn't even care
When her needs arose I was always there
So he cries out to his Father as a wise man should
Father on my honor I desire to do good
I compliment her often, I even hold her hand
How can I make this woman understand
Temptation is all around calling me to fight
Casting her bait in the dead of night
My need, my desire is to be close
Her presence and passion I desire most
All prayed out with nothing else to say
The father replied “I feel the same way”
I too desire the intimacy you speak of
My beloved also has forgotten her first love
she used to rise early and seek my company
And close every night desiring me
There were times she would not say a word
The admiration of the heart was all I heard
Even the smallest decision would come to me
In my presence was the best place to be
Now distracted and burdened with worldly cares
She acts as though I was never there
Isn't it a shame the man said
Balling his fist, shaking his head
How quickly, how quickly they forget
Some people, he said, just don't get it
Just then, mid-sentence, he thought
What a lesson I was just taught
