Among Thorns (Luke 8:14)

The sower went out to sow, spreading seeds all around
Praying as He tossed, watching as they hit the ground
I was the ground, receiving seed with joy
Watchful also of the enemy seeking to destroy
I am good ground, I know I am
I believe the Word, I obey God's commands
But somehow my spirit is torn
I have found myself among the thorns
How I got here is so beyond me
It appears to have happened subtlety
As I went about my daily grind
I seemed to have left my seed behind
Trails, tribulation, temptations, and test
The cares of this world don't seem to rest
But thanks be to God, the Holy Spirit is here
His gentle whisper beckons me near
Be still he says, look around and see
Your travel companion is no longer me
And the pain you feel is there to warn
That you have fallen among the thorns
Your problems grew the very hour
You began to walk in your own power
When worry and fear was given room
Faith was pushed out, facing certain doom
The more you went the natural way
The less your spirit could connect and pray
Once you are outside of God
The enemy begins a his barrage
It happens sometimes, don't be ashamed
Return and be restored in Jesus name
Remember the faithfulness of God in the past
The power and compassion that He has
Remember all He has done for you
At return to the path faithful and true
You are forgiven be assured of that
Come out from the thorns and don't go back
