Moments of Solitude

What lies on the unknown side,
When we can no longer run and hide?
When the coin is tossed, the die is cast,
When we've said our piece, breathed our last?

When that which makes us each unique,
Cannot be found, no matter how hard you seek;
When our worries and cares, thoughts and deeds,
Only remain where we've planted our seeds?

Will we find heaven's paradise, or flames of hell;
Will we live on only in stories our loved ones tell?
Is life a training ground, or stage upon which to act?
Did MY life have meaning, or just jumbled fact?

I often ponder such thoughts, as I sit and brood,
Considering the unknown future, in moments of solitude.
