  ONE DAY AT A TIME

BLUE ANGELS

Jointly chirping en route from a place far away,
A pair of angels were adopted especially for me.
Such a surprise made a dismal day go away,
As they entered my life and became a part of me.

Companionship rendered during lonely times,
Fulfilled an emptiness, which often invaded me.
Joyfully stretching their wings, as I set them free,
Often wished I could join them, and be so carefree.

Time was bitter when Blue's spirit faded away,
Helpless was I, for his suffering could not be cured.
All along, Angel clenched close to his fragile soul,
Many tears were shed, as he took his final breath.

The mourning for our beloved felt eternal,
Not a sound did my Angel make throughout,
No longer weep my precious one, I pled,
I, too, have lost my soul-mate, but must go on.

Not a year went by when Angel joined her mate,
My heart ached so, not knowing why she too had to go.
There must be a special place in the heavens above,
Where they have, once more, united as one.

As I watch birds fleeing, while singing happy tunes,
Sensing I could hear my Blue Angels chirping, too,
I believe their earthly home they have not forgotten,
So they can visit often from their newly-chosen haven.
